⤢ Full screenHymns designed for the use of the Second Advent Band (N. Stevens and H. B. Skinner, 1843), printed p. 29 (PDF 33). Words only: the hymnal prints no music. All on p. 29. Three unnumbered stanzas of eight lines (8.7.8.7 D). The Millennial Harp (p. 64) prints this hymn with music and seven stanzas; these three are its stanzas 1, 3 and 4, with «the gracious promise» (MH: «that gracious promise») and «promised» (MH: «promis'd»).
Ye who know your sins forgiven,
And are happy in the Lord.
Have you read the gracious promise,
Which is left upon record:
I will sprinkle you with water,
I will cleanse you from all sin:
Sanctify and make you holy,
I will dwell and reign within.
If you have obtained this treasure,
Search and you shall surely find
All the Christian marks and graces,
Planted, growing, in your mind.
Perfect faith, and perfect patience,
Perfect lowliness, and then
Perfect hope, and perfect meekness,
Perfect love for God and man.
But be sure to gain the witness,
Which abides both day and night;
This your God has plainly promised,
This is like a stream of light.
While you keep the blessed witness,
All is clear and calm within;
God himself assures you by it
That your heart is cleansed from sin.
