1

When all thy mercies, O my God!
My rising soul surveys,
Transported with the view, I'm lost
In wonder, love, and praise.

2

Unnumbered comforts to my soul
Thy tender care bestowed,
Before my infant heart discerned
From whom those comforts flowed.

3

Ten thousand thousand precious gifts
My daily thanks employ;
Nor is the least a cheerful heart,
That tastes those gifts with joy.

4

O, how can words with equal warmth
The gratitude declare
That glows within my raptured heart?—
But thou canst read it there.

5

Through all eternity, to thee
A joyful song I 'll raise:
But O, eternity's too short
To utter all thy praise!

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «77», tune name «GENEVA. C. M.» centred over the music, «John Cole.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ATTRIBUTES AND PROVIDENCE OF GOD.». GENEVA is a fuguing tune: stanza 1 is interlinear, one main lyric line per system with «1.» before «When» (system 1: «When all thy mer - cies, O . . my God! My ris - ing soul sur - veys,»; system 2: «Transport - ed with the view, I'm lost In won - der, love, and praise.»); the voices that enter later carry the words again in small type — the alto «When all thy mercies, O my God!» above the main line in system 1, the tenor and bass «When all thy mercies, O my God!» below it in system 1 and «Trans - ported with the view, I'm lost» below it in system 2. The two dots in «O . . my» are spacing leaders while the soprano holds «O», not words. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «120, 117, 147.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 120, 117 or 147). «Joseph Addison.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:», «!» and «?» («employ ;», «raise :», «praise !», «heart ?—»); it is closed up here. «I 'll» (stanza 5) is set with a space before the apostrophe and is kept so, as in HT_0026. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
