⤢ Full screenO for a thousand tongues, to sing
My great Redeemers praise!
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of his grace.
My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad,
The honors of thy name.
Jesus, the name that calms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease,—
'Tis music in the sinner's ears,
'Tis life, and health, and peace.
He breaks the cruel power of sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean,
His blood avails for me.
He speaks, and listening to his voice,
New life the dead receive;
The mournful, broken hearts rejoice,
The humble poor believe.
Hear him, ye deaf; praise him, ye dumb,—
Your loosened tongues employ;
Ye blind, behold your Saviour come,
And leap, ye lame, for joy.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—ADORATION OF CHRIST.»; hymn number «114», tune name «HOWARD. C. M.» centred over the music, «Mrs. Cuthbert» at the right (capitals and small capitals, no final period). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «O»; «thousand» is printed there as a whole word under two notes, and «Re - deem - ers» has no apostrophe (see uncertainties.md). Stanzas 2–6 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «677, 175, 120.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 677, 175 or 120). «Charles Wesley.» in italics after stanza 6. The print sets a thin space before «;» («free ;», «receive ;», «employ ;»); it is closed up here. In stanza 6 the first line is set very tight («Hearhim, yedeaf; praise him, yedumb,—»); the word spaces are restored. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. A former owner's pencil note beside the hymn number is not part of the print and is not transcribed.
