⤢ Full screenMajestic sweetness sits enthroned
Upon the Saviour's brow;
His head with radiant light is crowned,
His lips with grace o'erflow.
No mortal can with him compare,
Among the sons of men;
Fairer is he than all the fair
That fill the heavenly train.
He saw me plunged in deep distress,
He flew to my relief;
For me he bore the shameful cross,
And carried all my grief.
To him I owe my life and breath,
And all the joys I have;
He makes me triumph over death,
He saves me from the grave.
To heaven, the place of his abode,
He brings my weary feet;
Shows me the glories of my God,
And makes my joy complete.
Since from his bounty I receive
Such proofs of love divine,
Had I a thousand hearts to give,
Lord, they should all be thine.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «120», tune name «ORTONVILLE. C. M.» centred over the music, «Thomas Hastings.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ADORATION OF CHRIST.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Ma»; the music sings its last line twice («His lips with grace o'erflow, His lips with grace o'erflow.»), printed out in full under the staves — the stanza below gives the four verse lines once, as a poem, with the final reading «o'erflow.» (under the music line 4 ends first with «o'erflow,» and in the repeat with «o'erflow.»). Under the staves «Ma - jes - tic», «sweet - ness» and «Up - on» are hyphenated, while «enthroned», «Saviour's», «radiant» and «o'erflow» are printed whole under two notes each; «radiant light» is set with an almost closed word space («radiantlight»). Stanzas 2–6 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «183, 227, 201.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 183, 227 or 201). «Samuel Stennett.» in italics after stanza 6. The print sets a thin space before «;» («brow ;», «men ;», «relief ;», «have ;», «feet ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
