⤢ Full screenCrown him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon his throne;
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of him who died for thee;
And hail him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity.
Crown him the Lord of love!
Behold his hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above,
In beauty glorified:
No angel in the sky
Can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his wondering eye
At mysteries so great.
Crown him the Lord of peace!
Whose hand a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease,
And all be prayer and praise:
His reign shall know no end,
And round his piercèd feet
Fair flowers of paradise extend,
Their fragrance ever sweet.
Crown him the Lord of years,
The Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres,
Ineffably sublime!
All hail! Redeemer, hail!
For thou hast died for me;
Thy praise shall never, never fail
Throughout eternity.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «125», tune name «DIADEMATA. S. M. D.» centred over the music (the «D.» of the meter in small capitals), «George J. Elvey.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ADORATION OF CHRIST.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Crown»; there «many», «heavenly», «anthem», «Awake», «matchless» and the «eterni» of «eternity» (three notes) are printed unhyphenated under their notes; only «up-on», «mu - sic» and «eterni- ty.» carry hyphens. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «817, 899.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 817 or 899). «Matthew Bridges.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!»; it is closed up here. «piercèd» (stanza 3) carries a grave accent in the print and keeps it. Spelling («scepter»), punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 of each stanza are indented in the print.
