⤢ Full screenHark! ten thousand harps and voices
Sound the note of praise above;
Jesus reigns, and heaven rejoices;
Jesus reigns, the God of love;
See, he sits on yonder throne;
Jesus rules the world alone.
Hallelujah! hallelujah!
Hallelujah! amen.
Jesus, hail! whose glory brightens
All above, and gives it worth;
Lord of life, thy smile enlightens,
Cheers, and charms thy saints on earth:
When we think of love like thine,
Lord, we own it love divine.
Hallelnjah! hallelujah!
Hallelujah! amen.
King of glory, reign forever,
Thine an everlasting crown;
Nothing from thy love shall sever
Those whom thou shalt call thine own;
Happy objects of thy grace,
Destined to behold thy face!
Hallelujah! hallelujah!
Hallelujah! amen.
Saviour, hasten thine appearing;
Bring, O bring, the glorious day
When, the awful summons hearing,
Heaven and earth shall pass away!
Then, with golden harps, we 'll sing,
"Glory, glory to our King!
Hallelujah! hallelujah!
Hallelujah! amen."
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «132», tune name «HARWELL. 8s & 7s. D.» centred over the music («D.» in a small capital), «Lowell Mason.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ADORATION OF CHRIST.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, with «1.» before a brace: system 1 carries two lines, «Hark! ten thou-sand harps and voic - es Sound the note of praise a - bove;» and «Je - sus reigns, and heaven re - joic - es; Je - sus reigns, the God of love;» — the first and second time through the repeat of system 1; system 2 carries the main line «See, he sits on yon-der throne; Je - sus rules the world a-» and, below it, the bass's own words «See, he sits» · «Je - sus rules» · «the world a-» (the bass enters before the upper voices); system 3 carries «lone. Hal - le - lu - jah! hal - le - lu - jah! Hal - le - lu - jah! a - men.». Every stanza ends with the refrain lines «Hallelujah! hallelujah! / Hallelujah! amen.»; for stanza 1 they are the words sung to system 3. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «501, 466, 503.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 501, 466 or 503). «Thomas Kelly.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («worth ;», «earth :», «hail !», «crown ;», «own ;», «face !», «appearing ;», «away !», «King !», «Hallelujah !»); it is closed up here. «Hallelnjah!» at the start of the refrain of stanza 2 is printed with an «n» for the «u» (a turned or wrong letter) and is kept as printed (see uncertainties.md). «we 'll» (stanza 4) is set with a gap between «we» and the apostrophe in the print and is written so, as in HT_0019, HT_0026 and HT_0100. Stanza 4 closes the quotation it opens («"Glory, glory to our King! … amen."»); the printer's curly quotes are written straight. Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print, lines 5–6 and 8 further.
