Words
⤢ Full screenO how I love thy holy law!
'T is daily my delight;
And thence my meditations draw
Divine advice by night.
How doth thy word my heart engage!
How well employ my tongue!
And in my tiresome pilgrimage
Yields me a heavenly song.
No treasures so enrich the mind,
Nor shall thy word be sold,
For loads of silver well-refined,
Nor heaps of choicest gold.
When all the powers of nature droop,
Thy promises of grace
Are pillars to support the hope
Of my abiding-place.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—LAW OF GOD.»; hymn number «208» (large), tune name «WINCHESTER. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «THOMAS ESTE'S PSALTER.» at the right (capitals and small capitals — a source, not a person). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «O»; «'T is» is printed with a space between «'T» and «is» under one note. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «114, 70, 446.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 114, 70 or 446). «Isaac Watts.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («law !», «engage !», «tongue !»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («'T is»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
