⤢ Full screenHow blest are they who always keep
The pure and perfect way;
Who never from the sacred paths
Of God's commandments stray!
How blest, who to his righteous laws
Have still obedient been,
And have with fervent, humble zeal
His favor sought to win!
Thou strictly hast enjoined us, Lord,
To learn thy sacred will;
And all our diligence employ
Thy statutes to fulfill.
O then that thy most holy will
Might o'er my ways preside;
And I the course of all my life
By thy direction guide!
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «210» (large) with the reference line «546, 114, 117.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 546, 114 or 117); the hymn opens the right column of p. 71, beside stanzas 2–4 of hymn 208 and hymn 209, stanzas 1–4, «Anon.» in italics at the end. Unlike hymns 209 and 211, the first word «How» is set in ordinary capital and lower case, not in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («way ;», «stray !», «win !», «will ;», «preside ;», «guide !»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («God's», «o'er»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («favor», «fulfill»). No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6).
