⤢ Full screenAnother six days' work is done,
Another Sabbath is begun;
Return, my soul, enjoy thy rest,
Improve the day that God has blessed.
Come, bless the Lord, whose love assigns
So sweet a rest to weary minds:
A blessed antepast is given,
On this day more than all the seven.
O that our thoughts and thanks may rise
As grateful incense to the skies,
And draw from Christ that sweet repose
Which none but he who feels it knows.
This heavenly calm within the breast –
Is the best pledge of glorious rest,
Which for the church of God remains,
The end of cares, the end of pains.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—THE SABBATH.»; hymn number «215» (large), tune name «HEBRON. L. M.» centred over the music (condensed bold), «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, two verse lines per system, with «1.» before «An»; under the notes the print hyphenates «An - oth - er», «Sab - bath», «be - gun;», «Re - turn,», «en - joy», «Im - prove». Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «212, 343, 514.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 212, 343 or 514); «Samuel Stennett.» in italics after stanza 4. Any thin space the print sets before «:» or «;» is closed up here (convention). The printer's curly apostrophe of «days'» is written straight. Stanza 4, line 1 ends with a short dash set after a word space («breast –»), kept as printed (see uncertainties.md). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's; the lines of stanzas 2–4 are set flush (no indentation).
