⤢ Full screenSweet is the work, O Lord,
Thy glorious name to sing;
To praise and pray, to hear thy word,
And grateful offerings bring.
Sweet, on this day of rest,
To join in heart and voice
With those who love and serve thee best,
And in thy name rejoice.
To songs of praise and joy
Be every Sabbath given,
That such may be our blest employ
Eternally in heaven.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «239» (large) with the reference line «688, 601, 151.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 688, 601 or 151); the hymn stands in the right column of p. 79 below hymn 238, with «Harriet Auber.» in italics after stanza 3. The first word «SWEET» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» («sing ;»); it is closed up here. Stanza 2, line 3: the mark after «best» is read as a comma whose thin neck failed to print (see uncertainties.md). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6).
