Worship — Closing Hymns

Now may the Lord, our Shepherd, lead

  • No. 259
  • Words Anon.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Now may the Lord, our Shepherd, lead
To living streams his little flock;
May he in flowery pastures feed,
Shade us at noon beneath the rock.

2

Now may we hear our Shepherd's voice,
And gladly answer to his call;
Now may our hearts in him rejoice
Who knows, and names, and loves us all.

3

When the Chief Shepherd shall appear,
And small and great before him stand,
O may the flock assembled here
Be with the saved at his right hand!

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «259» (large) with the reference line «136, 171.» in bold italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 136 or 171); stanzas 1–2 stand at the foot of the left text column of p. 86, below hymn 258, and stanza 3 at the top of the right column (beginning «3 When the Chief Shepherd»), followed by «Anon.» in italics. The first word «NOW» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («flock ;», «call ;», «hand !»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («Shepherd's»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. A dot printed before «Anon.» is a stray mark, not transcribed. No meter is printed (the text is L. M.). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
