Still with thee, O my God

  • No. 269
  • Words James Burns.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Still with thee, O my God!
I would desire to be;
By day, by night, at home, abroad,
I would be still with thee.

2

With thee when dawn comes in,
And calls me back to care,
Each day returning to begin
With thee, my God, in prayer.

3

With thee, when day is done,
And evening calms the mind;
The setting, as the rising sun,
With thee my heart would find.

4

With thee, in thee, by faith
Abiding I would be;
By day, by night, in life, in death,
I would be still with thee.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «269» (large) with the reference line «191, 151, 688.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 191, 151 or 688); the hymn stands in the right column of p. 88, below hymn 268, and ends at the foot of the page with «James Burns.» in italics. The first word «STILL» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («God !», «be ;», «mind ;»); it is closed up here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's (no comma after «With thee» in stanza 2, line 1; commas after «With thee» in stanzas 3 and 4). No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6, like the three tunes of the reference line).
