⤢ Full screenBy living faith we now can see,In the most holy place on high,Jesus, our Advocate and Friend,Who gave himself for us to die.
A Minister of holy things,At God's right hand exalted high,He pleads his own, his precious blood,That chosen Israel may not die.
Once was he offered,—once for all,A Sacrifice for guilty man,—What wondrous, what unbounded loveIs seen throughout salvation's plan!
All glory to his holy name!To those who love him will he comeThe second time; then to redeem,And take them to his glorious home.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «CHRIST—MEDIATION AND ATONEMENT.» (the first hymn of the section); hymn number «343» (large), tune name «ANVERN. L. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «By»: «liv-ing», «ho - ly», «Je - sus,» are hyphenated under the notes, while «Advocate» and «himself» are printed unbroken although they are sung on three and two notes. The music repeats the last line: the interlinear reads «Who gave himself for us to die, Who gave himself for us to die.»; the line is written once below. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «47, 64, 514.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 47, 64 or 514). «R. F. Cottrell.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («plan !», «name !», «time ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («God's», «salvation's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («offered,—once», «man,—»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
