⤢ Full screenArise, my soul, arise,Shake off thy guilty fears; The bleeding SacrificeIn my behalf appears; Before the throne my Saviour stands; My name is written on his hands.
He ever lives above,For me to intercede; His all-redeeming love,His precious blood, to plead; His blood was shed for all our race,And sprinkles now the throne of grace.
Five bleeding wounds he bears,Received on Calvary; They pour effectual prayers,They strongly speak for me:Forgive him, O, forgive! they cry,Nor let the contrite sinner die!
The Father hears him pray,His dear, anointed One;He cannot turn awayThe presence of his Son;His Spirit answers to the blood,And tells me I'm a child of God.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «CHRIST—MEDIATION AND ATONEMENT.»; hymn number «359» (large), tune name «MURRAY. H. M.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «GERMAN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals: the tune's source). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Arise,» (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in two columns below the music, under the reference line «252, 360, 167.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 252, 360 or 167); stanza 3 runs from the foot of the left column into the right column. «Charles Wesley.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («intercede ;», «Calvary ;», «me :», «forgive !», «die !», «One ;», «Son ;»); it is closed up here. The «e» of «the» in stanza 2 line 6 is a damaged letter (it prints like «thə»); it is the word «the». The stanza numbers of the text columns are printed without a period («2», «3», «4»); they are written «2.» … here, like the interlinear «1.», as in the other deliveries of this book. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
