The Sinner — Repentance and Acceptance

My God, my God, to thee I cry

  • No. 452
  • Words Charles Wesley.
  • 2 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

My God, my God, to thee I cry;Thee only would I know:Thy purifying blood apply,And wash me white as snow.Touch me, and make the leper clean;Purge mine iniquity:Unless thou wash my soul from sin,I have no part in thee.

2

But art thou not already mine?Answer, if mine thou art;Whisper within, thou Love divine,And cheer my drooping heart.Behold for me the Victim bleeds,His wounds are open wide; For me the blood of sprinkling pleads,And speaks me justified.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «452» (large) with the reference line «486, 83.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 486 or 83); the two stanzas stand in the right column of p. 146, below hymn 451 and «Peter Stryker.», with «Charles Wesley.» in italics after stanza 2. The first word «MY» is set in capitals and small capitals; written in ordinary type here. The stanza numbers are printed without a period («1», «2»); written «1.», «2.» here as in the other deliveries of this book. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «?» («cry ;», «know :», «clean ;», «iniquity :», «mine ?», «art ;», «wide ;»); it is closed up here. Lines 2, 4, 6, 8 of each stanza are indented in the print. No meter is printed (the text is C. M. D., like the referenced tunes). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
