My God, how endless is thy love

  • No. 545
  • Metre L. M.
  • Words Isaac Watts.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

My God, how endless is thy love!Thy gifts are every evening new;And morning mercies from above,Gently distill like early dew.

2

Thou spread'st the curtains of the night,Great Guardian of my sleeping hours;Thy sovereign word restores the light,And quickens all my drowsy powers.

3

I yield myself to thy command; To thee I consecrate my days;Perpetual blessings from thy handDemand perpetual songs of praise.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «545» (large) in the right column of p. 179, under hymn 544 («James Edmeston.»), with the reference line «627, 514, 316.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 627 LEBANON, 514 RETREAT or 316 OLDEN, all L. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines of 8 syllables are L. M., like the referenced tunes). Stanzas numbered «1», «2», «3» without periods (written «1.», «2.», «3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «MY» is set in a capital and a small capital; written «My». «Isaac Watts.» in italics at the foot of the right column, after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («love !», «new ;», «hours ;», «command ;», «days ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («spread'st»). Spelling («distill»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
