⤢ Full screenMy heavenly home is bright and fair;Nor pain, nor death can enter there; Its glittering towers the sun outshine; That heavenly mansion shall be mine.
I'm going home, I'm going home,I'm going home to die no more;To die no more, to die no more,I'm going home to die no more.
My Father's house is built on high,Far, far above the starry sky; When from this earthly prison free,That heavenly mansion mine shall be.
While here a stranger, far from home,Affliction's waves may round me foam; And though, like Lazarus, sick and poor,My heavenly mansion is secure.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—WARFARE AND PILGRIMAGE.» (shared with hymn 596 on the same page); hymn number «597» (large), tune name «I'M GOING HOME. L. M. P.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals, the «P.» in a smaller size), «WILLIAM McDONALD.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, «1.» before a brace enclosing two rows under the repeated first system: «My heavenly home is bright and fair; Nor pain, nor death can en-ter there;» (first time) over «Its glittering towers the sun out-shine; That heavenly man-sion shall be mine.» (on the repeat). The word «Chorus.» is printed in bold above the treble at the start of the second system; the chorus words are printed only there, in two bracketed rows under the repeated system («I'm go-ing home, I'm go-ing home, I'm go-ing home to die no more;» / «To die no more, to die no more, I'm go-ing home to die no more.»), and are sung after every stanza. Under the staves «heavenly» and «glittering» are printed whole under two notes each; «out-shine» is hyphenated. Stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in two columns below the music (no reference line), numbered «2» and «3» without a full stop (numbered «2.» and «3.» here like stanza 1); «William Hunter.» in bold italics after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «;» («sky ;», «foam ;»); it is closed up here; the curly apostrophes («I'm», «Father's», «Affliction's») are written straight. «Affliction's» (stanza 3) is heavily inked in this exemplar (the «c» looks like an «e»). A manuscript note of the exemplar over the header («1849 Hymnal …») is not printed matter and is not transcribed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
