1

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!Ye soldiers of the cross;Lift high his royal banner,It must not suffer loss:From vict'ry unto vict'ry,His army shall he lead,Till every foe is vanquished,And Christ is Lord indeed.

2

Stand up! stand up for Jesus! The trumpet-call obey;Forth to the mighty conflict,In this his glorious day:Ye that are men, now serve him,Against unnumbered foes;Let courage rise with danger,And strength to strength oppose.

3

Stand up! stand up for Jesus!Stand in his strength alone; The arm of flesh will fail you;Ye dare not trust your own:Put on the gospel armor,And, watching unto prayer,Where duty calls, or danger,Be never wanting there.

4

Stand up! stand up for Jesus! The strife will not be long; This day the noise of battle,The next the victor's song:To him that overcometh,A crown of life shall be;He with the King of GloryShall reign eternally.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—WARFARE AND PILGRIMAGE.»; hymn number «611» (large), tune name «MENDEBRAS. 7s & 6s.» (condensed capitals and small capitals) with «D.» in a smaller capital beside it, «GERMAN, ARR. BY LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves: «1.» and a brace open two lines over the repeated first part of the tune — «Stand up! stand up for Je-sus! Ye soldiers of the cross;» (first time) over «Lift high his roy-al ban-ner, It must not suf-fer loss:» (second time), closed by a second brace — then «From vic-t'ry un-to vict'ry,» level with the second line, and on system 2 «His arm-y shall he lead, Till ev - ery foe is vanquished, And Christ is Lord in - deed.» (sung once). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «833, 246.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 833 or 246); «George Duffield.» in italics after stanza 4. Lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;», «:» and «?» («up !», «Jesus !», «obey ;», «day :», «foes ;», «alone ;», «you ;», «own :», «long ;», «song :», «be ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («vic-t'ry», «vict'ry», «victor's»). The stanza numbers are printed without a period («2», «3», «4»); they are written «1.» … here, as in the other deliveries of this book. Spelling («armor»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
