1

Go forward, Christian soldier,Beneath his banner true:The Lord himself, thy Leader,Shall all thy foes subdue. His love foretells thy trials,He knows thy hourly need;He can, with bread of heaven,Thy fainting spirit feed.

2

Go forward, Christian soldier,Nor dream of peaceful rest,Till Satan's host is vanquished,And heaven at last possessed;Till Christ himself shall call theeTo lay thine armor by,And wear in endless glory,The crown of victory.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: words only, in the right column of page 199 (running head «THE CHRISTIAN—WARFARE AND PILGRIMAGE.»), below hymn 612. Hymn number «613» (large) with the reference line «833, 415.» in italics beside it (= sung to the tunes of hymns 833 or 415; both are 7s & 6s. D. in the book, so the meter is the references' — it is not printed with this hymn). «Laurence Tuttiett.» in italics after stanza 2. The first word «Go» is printed in ordinary type (capital G, lower-case o — not in small capitals, unlike «GOD» of 612). Lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 of each stanza are indented. The print sets a thin space before «:» and «;» («true :», «need ;», «possessed ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («Satan's»). The stanza numbers are printed without a period («1», «2»); they are written «1.», «2.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book. Spelling («armor»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
