⤢ Full screenJesus, lover of my soul,Let me to thy bosom fly,While the billows near me roll,While the tempest still is high;Hide me, O my Saviour, hide!Till the storm of life is past;Safe into the haven guide,O receive my soul at last!
Other refuge have I none,Hangs my helpless soul on thee;Leave, O leave me not alone!Still support and comfort me;All my trust on thee is stayed,All my help from thee I bring;Cover my defenseless headWith the shadow of thy wing.
Thou, O Christ, art all I want,More than all in thee I find;Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,Heal the sick, and lead the blind.Just and holy is thy name,I am all unrighteousness;Vile and full of sin I am,Thou art full of truth and grace.
Plenteous grace with thee is found—Grace to pardon all my sin;Let the healing streams abound,Make and keep me pure within;Thou of life the Fountain art,Freely let me take of thee;Spring thou up within my heart,Rise to all eternity.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.»; hymn number «770» (large), tune name «WICKHAM. 7s. D.» centred over the music («D.» smaller), «MORRIS.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is set with the music in a small condensed bold face: under system 1, «1. Je - sus, lov - er of my soul, Let me to thy bo - som fly, While the bil-lows near me roll,»; under system 2, «While the tem-pest still is high;» and then, in a brace, two lines sung to the repeated half of the tune — «Hide me, O my Saviour, hide! Till the storm of life is past;» (first time, first ending) and «Safe in - to the ha-ven guide, O re - ceive my (omit.)» followed, after the closing brace, by «soul at last!» (second time, second ending). «(omit.)» is a direction (skip the first ending), not a word of the hymn. Stanza 1 is given below as eight verse lines. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in two columns (no reference line above stanza 2); stanza 3 is split between the columns (lines 1–4 at the foot of the left column, lines 5–8 at the top of the right column, no number repeated); «Charles Wesley.» in italics at the end. The even lines of each stanza are indented. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («thee ;», «alone !»); it is closed up here. Spelling («Saviour», «defenseless»), punctuation (the dash in «found—») and capitals («Fountain») are the print's.
