⤢ Full screenThough faint, yet pursuing, we go on our way;The Lord is our Leader, his word is our stay;Though suffering, and sorrow, and trials be near,The Lord is our Refuge, and whom can we fear?
He raiseth the fallen, he cheereth the faint; The weak, and oppressed, he will hear their complaint; The way may be weary, and thorny the road,But how can we falter?—our help is in God!
And to his green pastures our footsteps he leads,His flock in the desert how kindly he feeds! The lambs in his bosom he tenderly bears,And brings back the wanderers all safe from the snares.
Though clouds may surround us, our God is our light;Though storms rage around us, our God is our might; So, faint yet pursuing, still onward we come:The Lord is our Leader, and heaven is our home!
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «782» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 256, beside the start of stanza 2 of hymn 781, with the italic reference line «783, 512.» (= sing to the tunes of hymns 783 or 512, both 11s.). Four stanzas of four lines, numbered «1»–«4» without a full stop (written «1.»–«4.» here). The first word «THOUGH» is set in capitals and small capitals (written «Though» here). Lines too long for the column are broken and the run-over indented («our / way;», «our / stay;», «be / near,», «can / we fear?», «their / complaint;», «he / leads,», «safe / from the snares.», «God / is our light;», «is / our might;», «our / home!»); each verse line is joined here as one line. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. No meter is printed (the text is 11s., like GOSHEN and the tunes referred to). The print's thin space before «;», «:», «!» and «?» is closed up. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
