1

Awake, ye saints, and raise your eyes,And raise your voices high;Awake, and praise that sovereign loveThat shows salvation nigh.

2

Swift on the wings of time it flies; Each moment brings it near; Then welcome each declining day,Welcome each closing year.

3

Not many years their round shall run,Not many mornings rise,Ere all its glories stand revealedTo our admiring eyes.

4

Ye wheels of nature, speed your course!Ye mortal powers, decay!Haste! till the last glad morning riseThat brings eternal day.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «794» (large), tune name «ZERAH. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WAITING FOR CHRIST—CLOSING WORK.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves: «1. Awake, ye saints, and raise your eyes, And raiso your voi-ces high; A-wake, and praise that sovereign love» under system 1 and «That shows sal - va - tion nigh; A-wake, and praise that sovereign love That shows sal - va - tion nigh.» under system 2 — the music sings lines 3–4 of the stanza twice (written out in the score); here each verse line is given once, as in stanzas 2–4; under the music line 4 ends first with «nigh;» and, in the repeat, with «nigh.» — the poem keeps the final reading (as in the delivery of hymn 70, also ZERAH). In the interlinear line the second line reads «And raiso your voices high;» — the print has an «o» sort in place of the «e» of «raise» (the word is «raise», as in the first line «raise your eyes»); it is kept as printed here and logged in uncertainties.md. The reference line «399, 755, 354.» in italic figures stands centred over stanza 2 (sing also to the tunes of hymns 399, 755 and 354). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, numbered «2»–«4» without periods (written «2.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 are indented. «Philip Doddridge.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («flies ;», «course !», «decay !», «Haste !»); it is closed up here. Spelling («revealed»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
