1

Ye who rose to meet the Lord,Ventured on his faithful word,Faint not now, for your rewardWill be quickly given.Faint not, always watch and pray;Jesus will no more delay;Even now 'tis dawn of day;Day-star beams from heaven.

2

Would ye to the end endure?Keep the wedding garment pure,Claim ye still the promise sure,Faithful is the Lord!Let your lamps be burning bright; In God's word is beaming light;Live by faith, and not by sight—Crowns are your reward.

3

Mid the darts of angry foe,Onward, fearless, onward go,The good soldier's courage show,On to victory!Let thine eyes be turned to me,Jesus says, "I'll rescue thee;Overcome, and faithful be,Thou shalt glory see!"

4

Tones of thunder through the sky,Angel voices sounding high,Echo still the mighty cry,"Jesus, quickly come!"Quickly he'll return again,With his saints he'll come to reign,While all heaven will shout, "Amen!Welcome to thy throne!"

5

Marriage supper now prepared,By the guests will then be shared,In fair, righteous robes arrayed,Like the Bridegroom King.Glory to Jehovah's name!Sound aloud the glad acclaim,To the Lamb that once was slain,Alleluias bring!

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «WAITING FOR CHRIST—CLOSING WORK.»; hymn number «838» (large), tune name «CALEDONIA. 7s & 5. D.» centred over the music, «Scotch.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, as ONE running line of whole words per system (four verse lines per system, no syllable hyphens), in a condensed bold face, with «1.» before «Ye»; its first word is not in small capitals. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, eight lines each, lines 4 and 8 indented, numbered «2»–«5» without periods (written «2.»–«5.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); there is no reference line (the hymn has its own tune). «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («pray ;», «Lord !», «bright ;», «thee ;», «come !»); it is closed up here; quotation marks and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation, the dash («sight—»), the unclosed quotation of stanza 4 line 7 (closed at the end of line 8) and capitals are the print's. Hymn 838 begins and ends on p. 276.
