The last lovely morning,All blooming and fair,Is fast onward fleeting,And soon will appear;

Chorus.

While the mighty, mighty, mighty trampSounds, "Come, come away!"O, let us be readyTo hail that glad day!

2

And when that bright morningIn splendor shall dawn,Our tears will be ended,Our sorrows all gone.

3

The Bridegroom from gloryTo earth shall descend,Ten thousand bright angelsAround him attend.

4

The graves will be opened,The saints will arise,And with the RedeemerMount up to the skies.

5

The saints, then immortal,In glory shall reign;The Bride with the BridegroomForever remain.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «WAITING FOR CHRIST—CLOSING WORK.»; hymn number «853» (large), tune name «LAST LOVELY MORNING. 6s & 5s. P.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). A handwritten «Early Advent» and a wavy underline under the tune name are annotations of this exemplar, not print, and are not transcribed. The music is one system: bars 1–5 end with a repeat sign under «Fine.», «Chorus.» stands over bar 6, «D. C.» over the last bar. Stanza 1 is interlinear, in a bold condensed face: «1.» and a brace holding two lines under the verse bars («The last lovely morn-ing, All blooming and fair,» / «Is fast enward fleeting, And soon will appear;»), then, after the closing brace, the chorus line under the chorus bars («While the mighty, mighty,mighty tramp Sounds, " Come,come away ! "»); below them, in italics, the line sung to the verse bars after the D. C.: «D. C.—O, let us be read-y To hail that glad day!». The chorus and the D. C. line are printed once, with stanza 1, and are sung after every stanza. Stanza 1 is assembled below in the order sung (lines 1–2 to the verse bars, lines 3–4 to their repeat), then the chorus with the D. C. line. «enward» is kept as printed (the first letter is an «e»; the sense is «onward»; see uncertainties.md). No reference line is printed for this hymn. Stanzas 2–5 follow as text in two columns (2–3 left, 4–5 right), numbered «2» … «5» without a period (numbered «2.» etc. here like stanza 1), lines 2 and 4 indented; «Anon.» in italics at the right under stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» and inside the quotation marks («appear ;», «away ! "», «" Come», «reign ;»); they are closed up here, and word spaces are given in «mighty, mighty» and «Come, come», which the compressed chorus line runs together after the comma. Straight quotation marks and apostrophes are used for the printer's curly ones. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
