⤢ Full screenThe coming events of the kingdom of GodCast in glory their shadows before; And my being would leap from its prisoned abode,And the King in his beauty adore.
He comes, and the Spirit that lingers below,In the hearts of the chosen and tried,Is quickened, and tells in its mystical flow,The approach of the Bridegroom and Bride.
The love and the joy and the peace of the blest,Like the day-star, arise in the soul,And we taste the first-fruits of the Eden of rest,And we hasten to enter the goal.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WAITING FOR CHRIST—CLOSING WORK.»; hymn number «861» (large), tune name «COMING EVENTS. 11s & 9s.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear. Under system 1, «1.» stands before a brace enclosing two lines: «The com-ing events of the king-dom of God Cast in glo-ry their shadows be - fore;» (verse lines 1–2, sung the first time, to the first ending «1st.») and «And my being would leap from its prisoned abode, (omit.) . . . . . . . . . .» (verse line 3, sung after the repeat; «(omit.)» in italics, followed by ten leader dots under the first ending = skip the first ending). Under system 2 (the second ending «2d.»): «And the King in his beau-ty a - dore, And the King in his beau - ty a-dore.» — verse line 4, printed and sung twice, the first time with a comma. Stanza 1 below is assembled in the order sung, with line 4 once, as the text stanzas give it. «events», «being», «prisoned», «abode,» and «shadows» are printed as whole words under their notes. No reference line is printed. Stanzas 2–3 follow as text, one in each column, numbered «2», «3» without a full stop (numbered «2.», «3.» here, like stanza 1), with «Anon.» in bold italics after stanza 3. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Long lines are set tight: «theBridegroom» (stanza 2, line 4) has no visible space, and stanza 3 lines 1 and 3 («The love and the joy and the peace of the blest,», «And we taste the first-fruits of the Eden of rest,») almost none; the word spaces are restored here. A speck over «the» in stanza 3 line 1 («thé») is not an accent. Spelling («day-star», «first-fruits»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
