Words

The Lord is coming! let this beThe herald note of jubilee; And when we meet, and when we part,The salutation from the heart.

The Lord is coming! sound it forth,From East to West, from South to North;Speed on! speed on the tidings glad,That none who love him may be sad.

The Lord is coming! saints, rejoice! We soon shall hear his glorious voice,Majestic, uttered from afar,As on he hastes his conquering car.

The Lord is coming! vengeful, dire,Are all his judgments and his ire,And none can hope to escape his wrath,Who walk not in the narrow path.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «SECOND ADVENT—EXECUTIVE JUDGMENT.»; hymn number «879» (large), tune name «WARRINGTON. L. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «HARRISON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear (one line under each system, after «1.»). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «223, 301, 19.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 223, 301 or 19); «Anon.» in italics after stanza 4. All four lines of each text stanza are set flush (no indentation). The print sets a thin space before «!» and, in places, «;» (e.g. «coming !», «Speed on !»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. The exemplar carries an owner's pen note above the running head (approximately «In 1869 Hymnal 186»); it is not part of the print and is not transcribed (see uncertainties.md).
