⤢ Full screenThe Saviour comes, his advent's nigh;He soon will rend the azure sky,Descending swift to earth again,When God shall dwell indeed with men.
Saints lift your heads; that day is nearWhen your Redeemer shall appear,To take the kingdom and the crown,And make his ransomed church his own.
Day promised long, now soon to dawn,When sin's dark night of death is gone!Come quickly, Lord, we long to seeThat morning of eternity.
And while we wait, we'll toil and pray,Still watching for that glorious dayWhen with the voice of trumpet loudThe Judge appears on yonder cloud.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «881» at the top of the right column of p. 295, reference line «538, 136, 336,» in italics — ending with a comma, not a period (sing to the tune of hymn 538, 136 or 336 — all L. M.: 538 HEBRON, 136 WARE, 336 BROCKHAM); four stanzas, all lines flush; «Anon.» in italics at the end. The first word, «THE», is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («nigh ;», «heads ;», «gone !») and before the apostrophe in «advent 's» and «we 'll»; all are closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («advent's», «sin's», «we'll»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8). The exemplar carries an owner's pen note on the line of the number, approximately «In 1869 Hymnal 343»; it is not part of the print and is not transcribed (see uncertainties.md).
