1

He's coming once again,To set his people free; That where he is, in glory bright,His saints may also be.Then lift the drooping head,Look up, rejoice and sing;He comes, in majesty sublime,Salvation's glorious King!

2

The earth shall quake with fear,The heavens shall flee away; And where shall guilty man appearIn that tremendous day?No refuge then is nigh,No shelter from the blast; The night of vengeance vails the skyWhen mercy's day is past.

3

His eyes of living flame,The wicked shall devour; No tongue will lightly speak the nameOf Jesus in that hour.No scorn, no words of hateFor his meek followers then; But prayers and tears that come too lateWill mark earth's mighty men.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «SECOND ADVENT—EXECUTIVE JUDGMENT.»; hymn number «899» (large), tune name «VERDI. S. M. D.» centred over the music (condensed capitals; the «D.» in a smaller size), «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); in the left margin, printed vertically (reading bottom to top), «by F. E. Belden.» beside system 1 and «Copyrighted 1886» beside system 2 (= «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.»). Stanza 1 is interlinear, one text line per system: system 1 = verse lines 1–3, system 2 = lines 4–6; lines 7–8 are printed in italics as a second line under the end of system 1 and the start of system 2 (under the bars from the segno to «Fine.»), preceded by «D. S.—», and are sung there after the «D. S.» at the end of system 2 (the music returns to the segno over «That» and ends at «Fine.» after «be.»). Stanza 1 below is assembled in the order sung. Under the staves «drooping», «rejoice» and the italic «glorious» are printed without a hyphen although each is sung to two notes; the other divisions are printed («com-ing», «a - gain», «peo-ple», «glo-ry», «al - so», «maj-es - ty sub-lime», «Sal - va - tion's»). The italic reference line «817, 125.» (= the same words may be sung to the tunes of hymns 817 or 125) stands under the music in the left column; stanza 2 follows there and stanza 3 in the right column, numbered «2», «3» (without a full stop; numbered «2.», «3.» here like stanza 1), with «F. E. Belden.» in italics after stanza 3. Lines 2, 4, 6, 8 of each stanza are indented in the print. The printer's thin space before «;» and «?» («away ;», «day ?», «blast ;», «devour ;», «then ;») is closed up here. Spelling («vails»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
