1

Saviour, my spirit longsTo see the glorious dayWhen saints with joyful songsAnd lifted eyes shall say,"Lo, this is he, our glorious Lord,He comes according to his word."

2

He comes to set us freeFrom every galling chain,In glorious liberty,In endless life to reign.Lo, this is he, our glorious Lord,He comes according to his word.

3

To David's glorious Son,The glad hosanna raise,His blissful reign begun,Shall last through endless days.Lo, this is he, our glorious Lord,He comes according to his word.

4

From sin, and death, and hell,We evermore are free,With Christ henceforth to dwell,And all his glory see.Lo, this is he, our glorious Lord,He comes according to his word.

5

The Saviour, promised long,Appears, on earth to reign;Awake the swelling song,Loud peal the lofty strain,Lo, this is he, our glorious Lord,He comes according to his word.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «SECOND ADVENT—EXECUTIVE JUDGMENT.»; hymn number «912» (large), tune name «PELDON. H. M.» centred over the music, «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Sav-iour,»: system 1 carries lines 1–4, system 2 lines 5–6 with line 6 sung twice («He comes according to his word, He comes ac - cord-ing to his word.»); the repeat is given once below, with the punctuation of its last printing («word."»; the first printing ends «word,»). Stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «252, 167.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 252 or 167); stanzas 4–5 stand in the right column, followed by «Anon.» in italics. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «;» («reign ;»); it is closed up here. Curly quotation marks are written straight. Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation and capitals are the print's. A handwritten ink note of this copy («In 1869 Hymnal 34…») runs over the end of stanza 5; it is not part of the print.
