1

Rest for the toiling hand,Rest for the anxious brow,Rest for the weary, way-worn feet,Rest from all labor now.

2

Rest for the fevered brain,Rest for the throbbing eye;Thro' these parched lips of thine no moreShall pass the moan or sigh.

3

Soon shall the trump of GodGive out the welcome soundThat shakes thy silent chamber walls,And breaks the turf-sealed ground.

4

Ye dwellers in the dust.Awake! come forth and sing;Sharp has your frost of winter been,But bright shall be your spring.

5

'T was sown in weakness here,'T will then be raised in power; That which was sown an earthly seed,Shall rise a heavenly flower!

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «DEATH AND RESURRECTION.»; hymn number «946» (large), tune name «SHAWMUT. S. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «ARR. BY LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Rest»; «way-worn» is printed as a hyphenated compound. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «236, 453.» in italic figures (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 236 or 453), numbered «2»–«5» without periods (written «2.»–«5.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented, and stanza 1 is laid out the same way here. «Horatius Bonar.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («eye ;», «Awake !», «flower !»); it is closed up here; apostrophes are written straight («Thro'», «'T was», «'T will» — the print sets «'T» apart from «was»/«will», kept so). Stanza 4 line 1 ends with a period in the print («Ye dwellers in the dust.»), kept as printed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Pen annotations of the scanned copy above the hymn («E. G. White», «July 24, 1915») are not part of the print and are recorded only in uncertainties.md.
