⤢ Full screenWe are going home: we've had visions brightOf that holy land, that world of light,Where the long, dark night of time is past,And the morn of eternity come at last.There the weary saints no more shall roam,But dwell in a sunny, peaceful home,Where the brow with celestial gems is crowned,And mansions fair with praise resound.
O that beautiful home!O that beautiful home!
We are going home: we soon shall beWhere the skies are clear, and the soil is free;Where the victor's song floats o'er the plains,And the seraph's anthem blends with its strains;Where the sun rolls down a brilliant floodOf beams on a world that 's fair and good,And the stars that dimmed at nature's doomWill sparkle and shine o'er the new earth's bloom;
Where the tears and sighs which here are given,Are exchanged for the gladsome songs of heaven;And the beauteous forms that sing and shineAre guarded well by a hand divine.Love's banner pure and friendship's wandAre waving above that princely band;And the glory of God, like a molten sea,Bathes the immortal company.
'Mid the ransomed throng, 'mid the sea of bliss,'Mid the holy city's gorgeousness,'Mid the verdant plains, 'mid the angel's cheer,'Mid the flowers that never of winter hear,—Where the conqueror's song, that sounds afar,Is wafted on the balmy air,—'Mid the endless years, we then shall proveThe matchless depths of a Saviour's love.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «REWARD OF SAINTS.»; hymn number «1009» (large), tune name «BEAUTIFUL HOME. P. M.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). The whole page is this one hymn; no reference line is printed. Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves of the four systems, with «1.» before a brace: its first four lines are printed in two rows inside braces under system 1, which is repeated («{ We are going home: we've had visions bright Of that ho - ly land, that world of light, / Where the long, dark night of time is past, And the morn of e - terni - ty come at last. }»); lines 5–6 are under system 2, lines 7–8 under system 3. System 4 is headed «Refrain.» (bold) and carries «O that beau - ti - ful home! O that beau - ti - ful home!»; the refrain is printed once and is sung after every stanza (it is not reprinted after stanzas 2–4). Under the staves «going», «visions», «mansions», «resound» are set as whole words and «e - terni - ty» is broken only twice (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in two columns below the music, numbered «2»–«4» without periods (written «2.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); every line after the first of a stanza stands at one indent. Nine long verses are broken by the column width and their end turned over on a deeper-indented line: stanza 2, lines 3 («the / plains,»), 4 («its / strains;») and 8 («earth's / bloom;»); stanza 3, lines 1 («are / given,»), 2 («of / heaven;») and 3 («and / shine»); stanza 4, lines 1 («of / bliss,»), 3 («angel's / cheer,») and 5 («sounds / afar,»); each verse is one line here. Stanza 3 runs from the foot of the left column to the top of the right column after «Are guarded well by a hand divine.». «that 's» is printed with a space before the apostrophe (stanza 2, line 6) and is kept so (as «I 'll» in HT_1008). The print sets a thin space before «:» and «;» («home :», «strains ;», «bloom ;», «heaven ;», «band ;») and before «!» under the staves; they are closed up here, and apostrophes are written straight. «Daniel T. Taylor.» in bold italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. Spelling («Saviour», «'Mid»), punctuation, dashes («hear,—», «air,—») and capitals are the print's.
