Words

Our God is love, and all his saintsHis image bear below; The heart with love to God inspired,With love to man will glow.

Our heavenly Father, Lord, thou art,Thy favored children we;O may we love each other hereAs we are loved by thee!

Heirs of the same immortal bliss,Our hopes and fears the same; With bonds of grace our hearts unite,With mutual love inflame.

So may the vain, contentious worldSee how true Christians love,And glorify our Saviour's grace,And seek that grace to prove.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «THE CHURCH—ZEAL AND UNION.»; hymn number «1018» (large), tune name «LUCIUS. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «GEORGE KINGSLEY.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Our» (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`; «in-spired,» is set with a tight syllable hyphen). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «179, 201, 114.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 179 ORTONVILLE, 201 LITCHFIELD or 114 HOWARD, all C. M.); they are numbered «2»–«4» without periods (written «2.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book). «Anon.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («we ;», «thee !», «same ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «Saviour's» is written straight. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling («favored», «Saviour's»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
