⤢ Full screenLord of glory! thou hast bought us,With thy life-blood as the price,Never grudging, for the lost ones,That tremendous sacrifice;—And, with that, hast freely givenBlessings, countless as the sand,To the thoughtless and the evil,With thine own unsparing hand.
Grant us hearts, dear Lord, to yield theeGladly, freely, of thine own; With the sunshine of thy goodness,Melt our thankless hearts of stone,Till our cold and selfish natures,Warmed by thee, at length believeThat more happy and more blessèd'T is to give than to receive.
Wondrous honor hast thou givenTo our humblest charity,In thine own mysterious sentence,—"Ye have done it unto me!"Give us faith to trust thee boldly,Hope, to stay our souls on thee; But, O,—best of all thy graces—Give us thine own charity.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1062» (large) in the right column of p. 364, under stanza 4 of hymn 1061 and its «Anon.», then in italics and brackets «[Tune, Greenville, No. 844.]» (sing to the tune GREENVILLE, hymn 844, 8s & 7s. D.), then «8s & 7s. D.» in bold with «D.» in small capitals. Three stanzas of eight lines in the right column, numbered «1», «2», «3» without a full stop (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), followed by «Mrs. Alderson.» in italics, right-aligned, at the foot of the page. The first word «LORD» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Lord». Lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 of each stanza are indented. The printer's thin space before «!» and «;» («glory !», «sacrifice ;—», «own ;», «me !», «thee ;») and after the opening quotation mark («" Ye») is closed up here; quotation marks and apostrophes are written straight («"Ye have done it unto me!"», «'T is»). «blessèd» keeps its printed grave accent; «honor», «'T is» (with a space) and the other spellings, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
