⤢ Full screenWhile in this sacred rite of thineOurselves we offer now,Shine o'er the waters, Dove divine,And seal the cheerful vow.
All glory be to Him whose lifeFor ours was freely given,Who aids us in the spirit's strife,And makes us meet for heaven.
To thee we gladly now resignOur life and all our powers;Accept us in this rite divine,And bless these hallowed hours.
O may we die to earth and sin,Beneath the mystic flood; And when we rise, may we beginTo live anew for God.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1072» (large) in the left column of p. 368, under hymn 1071 («Benjamin Beddome.»), with the reference line «399, 114, 943.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 399 HARVEY'S CHANT, 114 HOWARD or 943 LILLIE, all C. M.). No meter is printed; the four lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M., like the three tunes. Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza indented. The first word «WHILE» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «While». In stanza 2, line 1, «Him» carries a stray stroke above the «i» (a damaged sort); read «Him», with its capital H as printed. The print sets a thin space before «;» («flood ;»); it is closed up here, and the apostrophes are written straight («o'er», «spirit's»). «S. F. Smith.» in italics after stanza 4. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
