Words
⤢ Full screenSaviour, thy law we love,Thy pure example bless; And, with a firm, unwavering zeal,Would in thy footsteps press.
Not to the fiery painsBy which the martyrs bled; Not to the scourge, the thorn, the cross,Our favored feet are led:
But, at this peaceful tide,Assembled in thy fear,The homage of obedient heartsWe humbly offer here.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1089» (large) in the right column of p. 372 (running head «THE CHURCH—BAPTISM.»), below «S. F. Smith.» of hymn 1088, with the reference line «810, 403, 732.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 810, 403 or 732; for «810» see uncertainties.md). Three stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without a full stop (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book). The first word «SAVIOUR» is set in capitals and small capitals; written in ordinary type here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before some «;» («bled ;»); it is closed up here. «L. H. Sigourney.» in italics after stanza 3. Spelling («Saviour», «favored»), punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6, like the tunes 403 and 732 of the reference line).
