⤢ Full screenTo thee this temple we devote,Our Father and our God;Accept it thine, and seal it nowThy Spirit's blest abode.
Here may the prayer of faith ascend,The voice of praise arise; And may each lowly service proveAccepted sacrifice.
Here may the sinner learn his guilt,And weep before his Lord; Here, pardoned, sing a Saviour's love,And here his vows record.
Peace be within these sacred walls;Prosperity be here;O smile upon thy people, Lord,And evermore be near.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1137» (large) in the left column of p. 386 (running head «THE CHURCH—DEDICATION.»), below «Anon.» of hymn 1136, with the reference line «111, 395, 798.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 111, 395 or 798). Four stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without a full stop (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book). The first word «TO» is set in a capital and small capital (the «O» is the small-capital letter, measured wider and taller than the lower-case «o» of the same line); written in ordinary type here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «;» («God ;», «Lord ;», «walls ;»); it is closed up here; the wide space in «The voice» (stanza 2) is a spacing of the print and is not reproduced. «J. R. Scott.» in italics after stanza 4. Spelling («Saviour's»), punctuation and capitals are the print's; the apostrophes are the printer's curly ones, written straight. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6, like the tunes of the reference line).
