⤢ Full screenThere is a land, a better land than this—There's my home, there's my home!A land of pure, unbounded, perfect bliss,—There's my home, there's my home.A captive on this desert shore,I long to count my exile o'er,And be where sorrows come no more; There's my home, there's my home.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1146» (large, left) with «Other stanzas, No. 1003.» in italics under it (= the remaining stanzas are those of hymn No. 1003, «There is a land, a better land than this», BETTER LAND, p. 341 — they are not printed here and are not repeated in this file); tune name «THERE IS A LAND.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); no meter, no author. Only stanza 1 is printed, interlinear, in a bold condensed face: in system 1 two lines in braces with «1.» before them — «There is a land, a better land than this—There's my home, there's my home!» (first time, first ending «1st.») and «A land of pure, unbounded, perfect bliss,—There's my home, there's my (omit.)» (second time; «(omit.)» in italics = skip the first ending) — continued right of the closing brace, under the second ending «2d.», by «home. A cap-tive on this des-ert shore,»; system 2: «I long to count my ex - ile o'er, And be where sorrows come no more; There's my home, there's my home.». The stanza below is assembled in the order sung, as eight verse lines laid out like No. 1003 (lines 2, 4 and 8 indented), the syllables joined into words. Line 1 ends «this—» without the comma that No. 1003 prints («this,—»); line 3 has «bliss,—». The words of line 2 of the brace are set almost without spaces («pure, unbounded, perfect», «home, there's»); normal word spaces are written here. The print sets a thin space before «;» («more ;»); it is closed up here; the apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
