⤢ Full screenWeary pilgrim why this sadness? Why 'mid sorrow's scenes decline? The trial strange, brings joy and gladness; For all things shall yet be thine! . . . .O yes, all things shall yet be thine!
Earth anew, with robe of glory,Shall rejoice in hill and vale; And sweetest harpings tell the storyOf the love that could not fail;O yes, the love that could not fail.
Thou shalt range the fields of pleasure,Where joy's gushing songs arise;Thou shalt have all thy well-stored treasure,In the new earth, paradise;Yes, in the new earth, paradise.
Weary pilgrim, leave thy sadness; To Mount Zion thou art come! Now swell thy songs of joyful gladness,And rejoice in thy blest home;Thine own, and Jesus' heavenly home.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1151» (large), tune name «WHISPERING ANGELS.» centred over the music, «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); no metre and no reference line. Stanza 1 is interlinear, in a condensed bold face, one line per system and WITHOUT a stanza number: «Wea - ry pil-grim why this sad-ness? Why 'mid sor-row's scenes de - cline? The tri - al strange, brings joy and» / «glad - ness; For all things shall yet be thine! . . . . O yes, all things shall yet be thine!» — the four dots after «thine!» stand in the lyric line under the melisma of m9 and are kept (stanza 1, line 4). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in two columns (stanza 3 continues at the top of the right column), numbered «2» to «4» without period; lines 2, 4 and 5 of each stanza are indented in the print (kept here). «Anon.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «?», «;» and «!» («sad-ness ?», «vale ;», «come !»); it is closed up here; the missing space in «strange, brings» and «Earthanew» is the compositor's spacing and is normalized. Specks over the «e» of «tell» (stanza 2) and the «n» of «Anon.» are not accents. Curly apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
