⤢ Full screenLo! the time hastens on, soon the morning will dawn,When the King shall in glory descend:We expect soon to join the bright, holy throng,In the kingdom that never shall end.
O Saviour! dear Saviour! O Saviour, come! Here we mourn and we sigh,And we daily cry,"Come and gather the faithful home."
All the prophets of old saw a beautiful world,And they looked for the same with delight; And apostles have told of a city of gold,Where the Lamb is its glorious light.
O we long to be there, where no sorrow or careCan disturb that sweet, heavenly rest; And we hope soon to share in those beauties so rareIn reserve for the good and the blest.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1153» (large) at the top of the right column of p. 392, beside stanzas 2–5 of hymn 1152; no reference line is printed (the stanza begins directly under the number) and no meter. Stanza 1 is followed by «CHORUS.» (capitals and small capitals, written «Chorus.» here) and a four-line chorus, printed once; stanzas 2 and 3 follow without it (the chorus is sung after each). The stanzas are numbered «1»–«3» without a full stop (numbered «1.»–«3.» here); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza and lines 2–3 of the chorus are indented; the long first line of stanza 1 and third line of stanza 3 are turned over in the print («morning / will dawn,», «beauties / so rare») and are one line here. «Anon.» in italics after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «!», «:» and «;» («Lo !», «Saviour !», «descend :», «delight ;», «rest ;»); it is closed up here; quotation marks are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
