⤢ Full screenHear the glorious proclamation,The glad tidings of salvation,Hear the glorious proclamationOf the Saviour near.
While the choir of angels,While the choir of angels,While the choir of angels,Shall be chanting through the sky.
Hark! the tidings onward rolling,Jesus comes, the world controlling;Hark! the tidings onward rolling,Jesus comes to reign.
See the sign in heaven appearing,And the blazing chariot nearing;See the sign in heaven appearing,And the Saviour there.
See the earth in terror shaking,And the dead to life awaking;See the earth in terror shaking,And the saints arise.
Now on wings of light ascending,With a shining host attending; Now on wings of light ascending,See them mount the skies.
See, the banner waves in glory,While ten thousand tell the story;See, the banner waves in glory,And the saints are there.
They are saved from death forever,Praise to Him who did deliver; They are saved from death forever,And to die no more.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1157» (large), tune name «CHOIR OF ANGELS.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); no meter and no reference line are printed (the text is 8.8.8.5 with a chorus). Stanza 1 is interlinear in a condensed bold type: in system 1, «1.» and a brace before two lines — «Hear the glo - rious proc - la - ma - tion, The glad tid - ings of sal - va - tion,» (sung the first time, the second half under the first ending) and «Hear the glo - rious proc - la - ma - tion Of the(omit.) . . . . . .» (sung on the repeat; «(omit.)» in italics under the first ending, followed by six dots); after the closing brace, «Sav - iour near.» (second ending). System 2, headed «Chorus.» over the music: «While the choir of angels, While the choir of angels, While the cheir of angels, Shall be chanting through the sky.» and, on a second line under «choir … of» of each phrase, the tenor and bass words «heavenly choir, heavenly choir, heavenly choir» (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). The chorus is printed once and is sung after every stanza. Stanzas 2–7 are printed as text in two columns below the music, numbered «2»–«7» without periods (written «2.»–«7.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); the fourth line of each stanza is indented, and stanza 1 is laid out the same way here. «Anon.» in italics after stanza 7. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and «:» («Hark !», «controlling ;»); it is closed up here. «cheir» (third chorus phrase) is the print's letter, a misprint kept as printed (see `uncertainties.md`). The owner's ink handwriting in the top margin is not part of the print and is not transcribed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Saviour», «forever», «Him»).
