⤢ Full screenO how I long to see that dayWhen the redeemed shall comeTo Zion, clad in white array—Their blissful, happy home.
O bear me on, bear me onTo Mount Zion; Then bear me on to that city of loveWhere saints will ever dwell.
I'll hear the alleluias rollFrom the unnumbered throng,And with a heaven-enraptured soulI'll join redemption's song.
I'll see all Israel safe at home,Singing on Zion's hight; And Jesus crowned upon his throne,Creation's Lord, by right.
All hail! the morn of glory 's nighThe pilgrim longs to see,That dries the tear from every eye—Creation's jubilee.
Jerusalem I long to see,Blest city of my King; And eat the fruit of life's fair tree,And hear the blood-washed sing.
My longing heart cries out, O, come!Creation groans for thee! The weary pilgrim sighs, O, come!Bring immortality.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1159» (large), tune name «BEAR ME ON. C. M.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «ARRANGED.» at the right (small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, «1.» before «O», one line per system; the chorus follows in the same type in system 2 under the word «Chorus.» («O bear me on, bear me on To Mount Zion;»), after «Fine.» over «home.». Under the stanza line, from the segno over «To» (system 1) to «Fine.» (system 2), a second line in italics, preceded by «D. S.—»: «Then bear me on to that cit-y of love Where saints will ev-er dwell.» — sung there after the «D. S.» at the end of the chorus. Below, the chorus is written out in the order sung (its two printed lines + the D. S. lines). «redeemed» and «blissful,» are set unbroken under two notes. Stanzas 2–6 follow as text, numbered «2»–«6» without period (2, 3 and the first half of 4 in the left column; the rest of 4, 5 and 6 in the right column), lines 2 and 4 of each stanza indented, «Anon.» in italics after stanza 6; the chorus is printed once and is sung after every stanza. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («hail !», «hight ;», «King ;», «come !», «thee !»); it is closed up here. «glory 's» (a space before the apostrophe) as printed, apostrophes written straight. Spelling («hight»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
