⤢ Full screenFather, I stretch my hands to thee;No other help I know;If thou withdraw thyself from me,Ah, whither shall I go?
Cho.—I do believe, I now believeThat Jesus died for me,And that he shed his precious bloodFrom sin to set me free.
On thy dear Son I now believe,O let me feel thy power; And all my varied wants relieve,In this accepted hour.
Author of faith! to thee I liftMy weary, longing eyes:O let me now receive that gift;My soul without it dies.
Surely thou canst not let me die;O speak, and I shall live; And here I will unwearied lie,Till thou thy Spirit give.
How would my fainting soul rejoiceCould I but see thy face! Now let me hear thy quickening voice,And taste thy pardoning grace.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «MISCELLANEOUS—OLD MELODIES.»; hymn number «1183» (large), tune name «I DO BELIEVE. C. M.» centred over the music, «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). The tune is one system in repeat signs. Two lines are set between the staves as running words: stanza 1 with «1.» before it, and the chorus headed «Cho.—» (same roman face), sung to the same music on the repeat. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text below the music, with no reference line (2–3 in the left column, 4–5 in the right column), numbered «2»–«5» without period, followed by «Charles Wesley.» in italics. The chorus is printed once; the print does not repeat it or mark it after stanzas 2–5. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. «dic» (stanza 4, line 1) and «bear» (stanza 5, line 3) are kept as printed — printer's slips for «die» and «hear» (see uncertainties.md). The print sets a thin space before «;», «:», «!» and «?»; it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Handwritten «Prayer for healing» beside the hymn number and a wavy pen line under stanza 4 are marks of the exemplar's owner, not printed matter.
