1

When I can read my title clear (title clear),When I can read my title clear (title clear),When I can read my title clearTo mansions in the skies,I'll bid farewell to ev'ry fear (ev'ry fear),I'll bid farewell to ev'ry fear (ev'ry fear),I'll bid farewell to ev'ry fear,And wipe my weeping eyes.

Chorus.

We will stand the storm,We will stand, stand the storm,It will not be very long,We will anchor by and by, by and by;We will anchor by and by,We will anchor by and by;We will stand the storm,We will stand, stand the storm,It will not be very long,We will anchor by and by (by and by).

2

Should earth against my soul engage,And fiery darts be hurled; Then I can smile at Satan's rage,And face a frowning world.

3

Let cares like a wild deluge come,And storms of sorrow fall;May I but safely reach my home,My God, my heaven, my all.

4

There shall I bathe my weary soulIn seas of heavenly rest,And not a wave of trouble rollAcross my peaceful breast.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «1232» (large, left), title «WE'LL STAND THE STORM.» centred (condensed capitals with larger initials); under it the epigraph «"Give diligence to make your calling and election sure."—2 Pet. 1 : 10.»; «ISAAC WATTS.» at the left and «ARR. FROM THE FREEDMEN by T. C. O'KANE.» at the right (capitals and small capitals; «from the» and «by» in lower case); no meter, no reference line and no running head are printed. Stanza 1 is interlinear: «1.» and, between braces, two lines one above the other — the first sung through m0–m8, the second on the repeat (end-repeat sign after «skies, / eyes.», no start sign). In each line the first verse line is sung three times; after the first two the tenor and bass echo its last words in parentheses («(title clear),» / «(ev'ry fear),») while the treble holds. The «CHORUS.» is printed once, with two rows of words: the upper row is sung by soprano and alto, the lower row (indented below) by tenor and bass, who join the upper row from «We will anchor by and by» at the end; there alto and tenor echo «(by and by).». The rows of dots after «stand» and «storm,» under the treble's held notes are not reproduced here (they are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`). Stanzas 2–4 follow as text in two columns (stanza 3 runs over into the right column), numbered «2»–«4» without a full stop (numbered «2.»–«4.» here like stanza 1); they print only the four verse lines — the repetitions and echoes of stanza 1 are not printed for them. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («hurled ;», «fall ;», «1 : 10.»); it is closed up here. Words divided under the notes are joined («ti-tle», «ev-'ry», «man-sions», «weep-ing», «ver-y», «an-chor» → «title», «ev'ry», «mansions», «weeping», «very», «anchor»). Spelling («ev'ry», «fiery», «hurled»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
