⤢ Full screenSowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Bringing in the sheaves, Bringing in the sheaves,We shall come rejoicing, Bringing in the sheaves;Bringing in the sheaves, Bringing in the sheaves,We shall come rejoicing, Bringing in the sheaves.
Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,Fearing neither clouds nor winter's chilling breeze;By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,Tho' the loss sustained our spirit often grieves; When our weeping's over, he will bid us welcome,We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: no running head on p. 467 (the page opens with the hymn); hymn number «1249» (large, left), title «BRINGING IN THE SHEAVES.» centred (condensed capitals with taller initials); under it the epigraph in one line, «"The harvest is the end of the world."—Matt. 13 : 39.» (old-style figures); «KNOWLES SHAW.» at the left (words) and «GEORGE A. MINOR.» at the right (music), in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title and no reference line are printed. The three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of systems 1–3; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the last bar of system 3, and the chorus words are printed once — its first bar on the middle line, after «sheaves.» of stanza 2, the rest on one line under systems 4–5 (system 5 in a smaller condensed type); the chorus is sung after every stanza. Under the music, centred: «By permission.». Each printed line of words carries one verse line per two bars; each stanza is given here in its four verse lines, and the chorus in four lines. The words divided under the notes are joined here («sow-ing», «dew - y», «Go - ing», «Mas - ter», «spir - it», «oft-en», «Wait - ing», «har-vest», «la - bor», «end - ed», «weep-ing's», «o - ver», «re - joic - ing», «bring - ing» → «sowing», «dewy», …); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («eve ;», «13 : 39»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight («Tho'», «winter's», «weeping's»). Several words are set with a hair space or none between them by the justification («thesunshine», «nei-therclouds», «Whenour», «oft-engrieves», «thesheaves»); they are separate words. Spelling («labor», «Tho'»), punctuation and capitals («Bringing» with a capital throughout the chorus) are the print's.
