⤢ Full screenHe that goeth forth with weeping,Bearing precious seed in love,Never tiring, never sleeping,Findeth mercy from above.
Lo, the scene of verdure bright'ning!See the rising grain appear;Look! the waving fields are whit'ning,For the harvest time is near.
Soft descend the dews of heaven,Bright the rays celestial shine;Precious fruits will thus be given,Thro' an influence all divine.
Sow thy seed, be never weary,Let no fears thy soul annoy;Be the prospect ne'er so dreary,Thou shalt reap the fruits of joy.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: no running head on p. 474 (the page opens with the hymn); hymn number «1256» (large, left), title «HARVEST TIME.» centred (condensed capitals with taller initials); under it the epigraph in two centred lines, «"He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing / his sheaves with him."—Ps. 126 : 6.» (old-style figures); «THOMAS HASTINGS.» at the left (words) and «C. S. CABLE.» at the right (music), in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title and no reference line are printed. The three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of systems 1–2; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over system 3, and the chorus is printed once, under systems 3–4; it is sung after every stanza. In the chorus TWO lines of words stand between the staves for six bars: the upper line is sung by the soprano and the bass, the lower line by the alto and the tenor, who hold «Lo,», «See», «Look!» for three beats (the print marks the held note with «. .», which are not words) and then sing the rest of the line in quicker notes; the last line, «For the harvest time is near.», is printed once and sung by all. The lower line is given below after the chorus. Under the music, centred: «From "Songs of Gratitude," by permission.». Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; each stanza is given here in its four verse lines, and the chorus in four lines. The words divided under the notes are joined here («go - eth», «de - scend», «nev - er», «wea - ry», «heav - en», «Bear-ing», «ce - les - tial», «an - noy», «tir - ing», «sleep - ing», «Find - eth», «mer - cy», «a - bove», «Pre-cious», «giv - en», «in - fluence», «di - vine», «pros - pect», «drear - y», «ver - dure», «ris - ing», «ap - pear», «wav-ing», «har - vest» → «goeth», «descend», …); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The print sets a thin space before «;», «!» and «:» («shine ;», «Look !», «bright'ning !», «126 : 6»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight («Thro'», «ne'er», «bright'ning», «whit'ning»). Several words are set with a hair space or none between them by the justification («Brighttherays», «tialshine», «thescene», «inggrain», «thescene of verdure»); they are separate words. Spelling («Thro'», «bright'ning», «whit'ning»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
