⤢ Full screenOne more day's work for Jesus,One less of life for me:But heav'n is nearer,And Christ is dearer,Than yesterday to me;His love and lightFill all my soul to-night.
One more day's work for Jesus,One more day's work for Jesus,One more day's work for Jesus,One less of life for me.
One more day's work for Jesus; How glorious is my King!'Tis joy, not duty,To speak his beauty; My soul mounts on the wingAt the mere tho'tHow Christ my life has bought.
One more day's work for Jesus; How sweet the work has been,To tell the story,To show the glory,When Christ's flock enter in!How it did shineIn this poor heart of mine!
One more day's work for Jesus,—O yes, a weary day:But heav'n shines clearer,And rest comes nearer,At each step of the way,And Christ in all;—Before his face I fall.
O blessed work for Jesus!O rest at Jesus' feet! There toil seems pleasure,My wants are treasure,And pain for him is sweet.Lord, if I may,I'll serve another day.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: no running head on p. 476 (the page opens with the hymn); hymn number «1258» (large, left), title «ONE MORE DAY'S WORK FOR JESUS.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, taller initials O, D, W, J); under it the epigraph in one line, «"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day."—John 9 : 4.» (old-style figures); «ANNA WARNER.» at the left (words) and «REV. ROBERT LOWRY.» at the right (music), in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title and no reference line are printed. The five stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«5.», between the staves of systems 1–2 and under the first two bars of system 3; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the treble at the heavy bar of system 3, and the chorus words are printed once — on the third lyric line of system 3 (after «mine!» of stanza 3) and alone under system 4; the chorus is sung after every stanza. Under the music, centred: «By permission Biglow & Main.». Each stanza is given here in its seven verse lines (the capitals of the print mark them) and the chorus in four. The words divided under the notes are joined here («Je - sus», «glo - rious», «wea - ry», «bless - ed», «near - er», «dear - er», «yes - ter - day», «du - ty», «beau - ty», «sto - ry», «glo - ry», «en - ter», «clear-er», «near-er», «treas-ure», «Be-fore», «an - oth - er» → «Jesus», «glorious», …); «to-night» keeps its hyphen (the word is printed «to-night.», its two halves under two notes); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («Je - sus ;», «me :», «King !», «all ;—», «9 : 4»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight («day's», «heav'n», «'Tis», «tho't», «Christ's», «Jesus'», «I'll»). Several words are set with a hair space or none between them by the justification («Onemore», «Butheav'n», «Christis», «heav'nshines», «theway», «issweet», «mylife»); they are separate words. After «soul» in stanza 1 the print has a short low stroke («soul_ to-night.»); it is not a letter or a stop and is left out here (see `uncertainties.md`). Three words or pairs are set in a smaller condensed fount — «There» (stanza 5), «Christ's» (stanza 3), «How Christ» (stanza 2); they are ordinary words of the text. Spelling («heav'n», «tho't»), punctuation and capitals (lower-case «his», «him» for Christ) are the print's.
