1

I have a Saviour, he's pleading in glory,A dear, loving Saviour, though earth-friends be few;And now he is watching in tenderness o'er me,And O that my Saviour were your Saviour too!

Chorus.

For you I am praying, for you I am praying,For you I am praying, I'm praying for you.

2

I have a Father: to me he has givenA hope for eternity, blessed and true; And soon will he call me to meet him in heaven,But O that he'd let me bring you with me too!

3

A robe fair and spotless, resplendent in whiteness,Is waiting in glory my wondering view; And when I receive it all shining in brightness,Dear friend, I would see you receiving one too!

4

To me has been given sweet peace like a river—A peace that the friends of this world never knew; And Christ is the Author, and Christ is the Giver,And O that his peace might be given to you!

5

When Jesus has found you, tell others the story,That my loving Saviour is your Saviour too; Then pray that your Saviour may bring them to glory,And prayer will be answered—'twas answered for you!

About this hymn

As printed As printed: hymn number «1271» (large, left), title «FOR YOU I AM PRAYING.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, «For You I am Praying.»); under it, centred, the epigraph «"Evening and morning, and at noon, will I pray."—Ps. 55 : 17.» (old-style figures); on the next line «S. O'MALLY CLUFF.» at the left (words) and «MELODY BY MRS. FLORENCE MCCALLUM, ARR.» at the right (music), both in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. Under system 4: «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.» and the folio «487». All five stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«5.», between the staves of systems 1–3; «CHORUS.» (bold capitals) stands over the pickup after the heavy bar in system 3, and the chorus words are printed once, at the end of the third lyric line of system 3 and under system 4; the chorus is sung after every stanza. Each printed line of words carries two verse lines; they are given here one verse line per line. The first line of stanzas 3–5 is set solid, without syllable hyphens; «That my» (stanza 5) and «Saviour, though» (stanza 1) are printed almost without a space; the first letters of «friend,» (stanza 3) are blotted. The one italic word is «too» at the end of the second line of stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» and around the colon of «55 : 17»; it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, capitals and punctuation are the print's («Saviour», «o'er», «'twas», «blessed», «O'Mally»).
