1

Jesus is passing,Jesus is passing,Come, all ye blind, and receive now your sight; He will bend o'er you,He will restore you,He will exchange all your darkness for light;Come, and the Saviour will give you your sight.

2

Jesus is passing,Jesus is passing,Come now, ye lame, to the Healer of all;His life he gave you,One look will save you,He will attend to the poor cripple's call; Now he is passing, is passing for all.

3

Jesus is passing,Jesus is passing,Come, all ye poor, to the plenteous store; Now he will lead you,Ever will feed you,Jesus invites you to hunger no more;Come to the bountiful heavenly store.

4

Jesus is passing,Jesus is passing,Come, ye afflicted by sin and by shame;O we implore you,Let him restore you,Come while he lingers and calls you by name;Come, all ye laden with sin and with shame.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: the page (printed 495) opens with the last system of hymn 1278 («COME INTO THE ARK.—Concluded.»); under it the hymn number «1279» (large, left) and the title «JESUS IS PASSING.» centred (condensed capitals and small capitals, with a final period); under the title, in two lines of small roman type, the epigraph «"And, behold, two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, / Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David."—Matt. 20 : 30.» (old-style figures); on the next line «F. E. BELDEN.» at the left (words) and «D. S. HAKES.» at the right (music), both in capitals and small capitals. No meter, no tune name other than the title, no tempo word and no reference line are printed. The four stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.» «2.» «3.» «4.», between the staves of all three systems; there is no chorus. Under the music, centred: «Copyrighted 1878 by J. E. White.». Each stanza is given here in its seven verse lines (5.5.10.5.5.10.10 syllables): the printed lines of words follow the staves, not the verses — a new verse line is shown in the print only by its capital after a comma («He will bend o'er you, He will restore you,», «His life he gave you, One look will save you,», «Now he will lead you, Ev-er will feed you,», «O we im-plore you, Let him re-store you,»; the pronouns «he», «him» are otherwise in lower case), and the two «Jesus is passing,» are divided here in the same way. The system breaks fall inside verse lines, which are joined here: stanza 1 «…and re- / ceive now your sight;» and «He will ex- / change all your darkness…»; stanza 2 «…to the / Heal-er of all;» and «He will at- / tend to the poor…»; stanza 3 «…to the / plen-te-ous store;» and «Je-sus in- / vites you…»; stanza 4 «…by / sin and by shame;» and «Come while he / lin-gers…». The words divided under the notes are joined here («Je - sus», «pass - ing», «af - flict - ed», «re- / ceive», «Heal - er», «plen - te - ous», «im-plore», «re-store», «Ev - er», «ex- / change», «at- / tend», «in- / vites», «lin - gers», «hun - ger», «Sav-iour», «boun - ti - ful», «heav - en - ly», «la - den» → «Jesus», «passing», …); the divisions are in `lyrics_syllables.txt`. The type is tight and several words are set without a space between them («Onelookwillsaveyou,», «Comewhilehe», «yourdarkness», «byshame;», «nomore;», «withshame.»): they are separated here. The print sets a thin space before «;» («sight ;», «all ;», «store ;», «shame ;», «light ;», «call ;», «more ;», «name ;»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's, including «o'er», «Saviour», «plenteous», the lower-case «he»/«him», «Come now, ye lame,» (no comma after «Come»), «O we implore you,» (no comma after «O») and «Come to the bountiful…» / «Come while he lingers…» (no comma after «Come»).
