About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «1299» (large, left), title «WHO IS ON THE LORD'S SIDE?» centred (condensed capitals with larger initials «W», «L», «S»); under it the epigraph in one line, «"Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord's side?"—Ex. 32 : 26.» (old-style figures); «F. E. B.» at the left (words) and «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (music, capitals and small capitals). No meter, no tune name other than the title, no reference line. The three stanzas are interlinear, numbered «1.»–«3.», between the staves of system 1 and the first bar of system 2; each stanza is four verse lines (6, 3, 6, 3 syllables), each beginning with a capital as printed. «CHORUS.» stands over the second bar of system 2; the chorus words are printed once: the upper line under the treble («Choose now, choose now: On the right or wrong side,—False or true? …») and, under «Choose now, choose now:» both times, a lower line «Who is on the Lord's side? Who is on the Lord's side?» set under the tenor and bass notes, which move while soprano and alto hold half notes; «On the right or wrong side,—» is sung by all voices. The chorus is sung after every stanza. Words divided under the notes are joined («Al - ways», «on - ly» → «Always», «only»). The print sets a thin space before «:» and «?» («side :», «true ?», «32 : 26»); it is closed up here; curly quotes and apostrophes are written straight. Under the music: «Copyrighted 1886 by The J. E. White Pub. Co.» (the year over-inked; see `uncertainties.md`) and the folio «510». Spelling, capitals and punctuation are the print's («'tis», «'Tis», «side,—»).
