Under the music the words are printed as whole lines, not syllable by syllable: two lines joined by a brace under the top staff of system 1 (sung the first and the second time through the repeat), a third line under the second-treble staff of system 1 («O Canaan, it is my happy home, …», sung on the D. C.), and one line under the top staff of system 2 («O Canaan, bright Canaan, …»). Singing order: brace line 1, brace line 2, «O Canaan, bright Canaan, …», then (D. C.) «O Canaan, it is my happy home, …». Stanzas 2–5 are printed below the music with only their first two lines written out; «I am bound, &c.» and «O Canaan, bright Canaan, &c.» stand for the rest.
